Editorial
Dear friends,
We are thrilled to be back! The degrowth.info Newsletter has finally emerged from a lengthy and unintended slumber, having overcome some pesky technical issues. The plan from now on is to provide quarterly editions with events, news, publications, links to articles and all the highlights from the degrowth world!
Despite ever-growing challenges—rampant misinformation, mass armed violence, and extreme weather on a planet already reaching the critical 1.5°C threshold—we remain steadfast in our belief that a better future is within reach. Like the resilient cane that bends with the wind but remains firmly rooted, we will not cave in to climate doom. Instead, we are revitalized in our mission to share and amplify knowledge about the transformative power of degrowth.
We continue to be inspired by the subversive ethos of degrowth, which simultaneously deconstructs and rebuilds, nurturing the mycelial network of community bonds, solidarity, inclusivity, and diversity – the very foundations of resistance.
In recent news, we have proudly reached our 10th anniversary – check out this chronicle of our journey! Also take a look at our call for blog posts that will constitute a series on movements for social and environmental justice, with a focus on Global South struggles and organising. We have already received many thought-provoking pitches yet the call remains open, and we are looking forward to more proposals.
In our events section you will find updates about the upcoming conference taking place in Oslo from the 24th to 27th June 2025 jointly organized as the 18th Conference of the International Society for Ecological Economics (ISEE) and the 11th International Degrowth Conference with the theme "Building socially just postgrowth futures - linking theory and action"
With great joy, the degrowth.info Newsletter resurfaces. Here is to fruitful collaborations and radical imagination!
With shared purpose,

Mapping the Patriarchy in Conservation
This article argues that patriarchal norms undermine conservation efforts by promoting male supremacy, objectifying nature, and reinforcing harmful practices. Dismantling such norms is needed to make conservation more effective and just.
Degrowth and Anthropology
This paper examines how anthropological perspectives inform degrowth theories and practices. It covers key concepts, critiques of growth, alternative economic models, and engaged scholarship emphasizing pluriversal learning and decolonial approaches to sustainability.
Post-growth: the science of wellbeing within planetary boundaries
This review explores how the central idea of post-growth research aims to replace GDP growth with improving wellbeing within planetary limits. Advances include ecological models, reducing growth dependencies, and policies for resource reduction while enhancing welfare.
