Shared Ground: A Blue Earth Defense Learning Session “Grounded voices. Collective learning. Shared futures.” Speaker: Joëlle Saey-Volckrick
Organization: Degrowth.info
Topic: Degrowth: Debunking the myth of sustainable development

Overview:
Shared Ground is an online learning space initiated by Blue Earth Defense (BED) that centers grassroots knowledge, lived experiences, and collective reflection on ecological and social justice struggles. This conversation is especially relevant for so-called "developing countries" and for countries that continue to pursue development through the paradigm of endless economic growth. As governments and industries promote increasing consumption, industrial expansion, and the extraction of natural resources as the primary path to prosperity, we are invited to ask: What awaits us at the end of this endless pursuit of growth? Can a model built on finite resources truly deliver justice, well-being, and ecological sustainability, or is it time to imagine a different path forward?

Speakers note:

An economic system that constantly needs to grow creates inequalities and ecological disasters. Degrowth is a theory and a movement that proposes to transform societies to ensure environmental justice and a good life for all within planetary boundaries.

Speaker Bio:

Joëlle (she/her) is the coordinator of the media platform Degrowth.info, and a lecturer in Ecological Economics and International Economics in Grenoble (France). She is involved in various projects around food sovereignty. Her work seeks to build bridges between academia and grassroots movements.

YOU ARE INVITED!

Everyone interested in learning more, raising awareness, or exploring ways to express solidarity and take action in defense of communities and ecosystems is welcome to join.

The rising of a common vision - reality or utopia?

Thomas victor 6 photomas

By Christiane Kliemann When listening to all the keynotes, panels and sessions, or simply joining the lively discussions between conference participants, there is the notion of an overall agreement that a broader new vision for society and the economy is most urgently needed.  However, the elephant in the room is that such vision is almost impossible to shape, if it is to represent the diversi...
