Abstract: In the context of today’s multidimensional crisis there is an urgent need to rethink some of the main social institutions, in order to improve them and better adapt them to the current challenges. One of them is education which has been for ages one of the most precious and powerful instrument to enlighten the individuals but also to shape their behaviour, values, skills and knowledge. From the degrowth perspective however, there is an apparent lack of analysis of the issue. This short paper intends to explore the potential transitional role of education by analysing some key elements and offering some clues to stimulate reflection and debate.
